FEROZ AHMED-UD-DIN

BIOGRAPHY
Feroz Ahmed-ud-din is a writer, translator and airliner; born in Dhaka in August, 1950. He did his MA and BA (Honours) in English Literature at the University of Dhaka and then studied MBA at IBA. Honorary Fellow in Writing at University of Iowa, he had won the All Pakistan College English Poetry Contest in January 1971. His first poem was published in April 1973 issue of Ariel, U of Calgary, Canada. Feroz’s first and only collection of poems titled ‘This Handful of Dust’ was published by the Writers Workshop, Calcutta in 1975. He was also awarded All Nations Poetry Award by Triton College, River Grove Illinois, thrice and was a Visiting Writer at the International Writing Program, University of Iowa in 1976. In 1977 he was a Visiting Writer at CLI, East West Center, U of Hawaii, Honolulu. He has also worked for USIS as Program Assistant and later as an Educational Adviser. Feroz was also with Thai Airways International and SAS for eleven years. He was then the Sales Manager of Singapore Airlines for four years. His last job as an airliner was as the General Manager of Dragonair Bangladesh. Apna Khayal, Feroz’s translation of ghazals of contemporary sufi poet Waliul Hamid Aziz, was published in a bilingual edition in 2002. He is currently working on translations of sufi poetry.
