The Silver Vase

“What could be the reason behind it? May be he wanted to give it to me as a gift but did not get the chance.” told Mrs. Smith to herself. Two years had been passed since her son died in a road accident. Mrs. Smith did not enter into her son, John’s room during those days. After two years, she entered there to clean and make up. Each and everything in the room was known to her but there was a thing which she did not observe during John’s lifetime and that was a “Silver Vase”. It was wrapped in such a way that it seemed like prepared to give someone. Several questions aroused into Mrs. Smith’s mind after seeing the vase. After sometimes, she guessed that John might bring the thing for her but passed away before that. Then, she unwrapped the “Silver Vase” and kept that in a glass showcase as a decoration piece.
One day, she arranged a dinner party at home including some of her friends and their families. That was the first party after John’s death. Mrs. Smith nicely arranged everything for the party. Everyone enjoyed a lot and praised her. The “Silver Vase” in the glass showcase grabbed almost everyone’s attention as it looked very special. There was a man whose way of observation was different from others. That person was her friend’s husband, Mr. Cassidy. He was looking at the vase in such a way as if it was known to him or he was trying to find something from the vase. That was quite mysterious.
On the next day, someone knocked the door of Mrs. Smith’s house. She opened the door and saw that Mr. Cassidy and four men were standing there. She asked about the reason of their coming. They answered that they were the members of a team of detectives and wanted important information from her. Then, Mr. Cassidy asked that from where she had brought the silver vase. Mrs. Smith confidently told that her son, John brought that for her. After hearing the answer, Mr. Cassidy said that they were searching for a silver vase which looked same like hers. He again said that there was a story behind the vase they were looking for. Then, he briefly described the story. The story was that two years ago, some dacoits entered into a museum at night by breaking its window. In the museum, the most precious thing was a vase which was made of pure silver and that precious thing was requested to Mrs. Smith that if she would hand over her “Silver Vase” to them. If she did so, they could fill the empty space of that museum. Mrs. Smith thought for a moment and then, she gave her consent about that. The detective team thanked her and took the “Silver Vase” into a box. When they were leaving, she requested them to write her son’s name on the vase while displaying in the museum. “It may be the suitable name” thought Mr. Cassidy.
