A Sliver of You

You lie to nod and not
say very much at all.
My next drink has a space missing
in the shape of you leaving
this conversation.
Because I pretended to know you
Exactly as much as I can know you.
I should have known you hate that
I don’t know you at all,
Although I know the creases
your eyes fold in when you sleep,
the side of your shoulder that rests your stresses
and the wholeness that you are
when I am not even there.
